The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) was founded in 1931 with the mission "to protect all buyers and sellers of gemstones by setting and maintaining the standards used to evaluate gem quality." GIA developed the International Diamond Grading System and the "Four C's," now the industry's standard for diamond quality evaluation.
The Accredited Gemologist Association (AGA) is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to promoting the highest standards in Gemological Education, Research, and Ethics. "As a professional peer society, we believe in excellence and are dedicated to establishing the highest ethical and professional standards of practice."
